![]() ![]() I think people are very quick to write off certain units without really trying to make it work. You'll find strategies and synergies that others haven't yet. Play your own games, do your own testing. Obviously you don't want to take "weak" units or "useless cards" but don't just blindly follow what some podcast says. It might not be the strongest overall meta list, but if it does well against those players, in that tournament then mission accomplished. For example, if you know that 6 of the local players love a luke/leia list. And if someone starts winning everything locally, the meta will change to try to beat them. but right now, the community and meta is quite small (usually 4-8 players per tournament) so it can be very location dependent. You don't HAVE to run the meta list to have a chance. ANd vice versa, a player that runs a super strong list (whatever that is) can still easily lose by making mistakes, playing poorly or just bad dice luck. but an average list in the hands of a good player will still be competitive. That's not to say that every single possible list can beat any other one. ![]() The rest of it is how well you use your list on the table. I think the important thing here is that (at least in my opinion) the list/deck building and "exploitation" is probably only half of the battle. Any game can become way too competitive and lose the fun factor. It probably should have been point 1 really. Although, it may not be the best list, it was fun. Is skirmish all about exploiting game mechanics and mathematically calculating which combination of deployment and command cards does the most damage? What if I want to enjoy the gameplay and keep it somewhat competitive? For example, I enjoyed playing with Kayn Somos and all of the regular and elite stormtroopers in my list. Each to their own, I know it's not for some people, but if you don't enjoy competitive list/deck building, then your enjoyment of Skirmish might be somewhat diminished. I also enjoy the list building aspect of finding strong or thematic combos. I enjoy coming up against tough lists and figuring out ways to beat them. Know which units are powerful, know which units best counter your list, know what sort of command cards your opponent might be holding. ![]() You will almost always win games if you can predict your opponents moves/actions while making yours difficult to predict. Being able to react to your opponents moves, re-position your forces, and be quick enough to snag some objectives and terminals is very important. What are the top three points that I have to know/learn about skirmish (80/20 rule)? ![]()
